Background:
Enables mRNA N6-methyladenosine dioxygenase activity. Involved in RNA metabolic process; mRNA export from nucleus; and response to hypoxia. Located in Golgi apparatus; cytosol; and nuclear speck.ALKBH5, also named as ABH5 and OFOXD1, is a Dioxygenase that demethylates RNA by oxidative demethylation. It is a mammalian demethylase that oxidatively reverses m6A in mRNA in vitro and in vivo. ALKBH5 is required for spermatogenesis.
