Background:
Acylphosphatase is a small cytosolic enzyme that catalyzesthe hydrolysis of the carboxyl-phosphate bond of acylphosphates. Two isoenzymes have been isolated, called muscle acylphosphataseand erythrocyte acylphosphatase, on the basis of their tissuelocalization. This gene encodes the erythrocyte acylphosphataseisoenzyme. Alternatively spliced transcript variants that encodedifferent proteins were identified through data analysis. [providedby RefSeq].
