Background:
This gene encodes a member of the DNase family. Theprotein hydrolyzes DNA, is not inhibited by actin, and mediates thebreakdown of DNA during apoptosis. Alternate transcriptional splicevariants of this gene have been observed but have not beenthoroughly characterized.
