Background:
The protein encoded by this gene acts as a transcriptionalcoactivator for steroid and nuclear hormone receptors. It is amember of the p160/steroid receptor coactivator (SRC) family andlike other family members has histone acetyltransferase activityand contains a nuclear localization signal, as well as bHLH and PASdomains. The product of this gene binds nuclear receptors directlyand stimulates the transcriptional activities in ahormone-dependent fashion. Alternatively spliced transcriptvariants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
